Heritage trees are trees which
are exceptional or notable for a variety of reasons, such as;
- Veteran trees of great age and antiquity
- Trees which are closely associated with our culture or history
- Trees of exceptional size and record dimensions
- Botanically rare or unusual trees
- Trees associated with historical figures
- Named trees
- Trees which form part of historic landscapes
Donald Rodger has a particular interest in this specialist field
and provides the following services;
- Survey and recording of heritage trees
- Management recommendations for heritage trees and designed landscapes
- Individual veteran tree management plans
- Accurate measurement and recording of 'champion trees'
- Interpretation and access
- Illustrated lectures and talks
He is co-author of 'Heritage Trees of Scotland' and 'The Heritage
Trees of Britain and Northern Ireland'. (see publications

Recent Projects include;
- 'Edinburgh Heritage Tree Project' - for the City of Edinburgh
Council

- 'Scotland's Heritage Trees' - a major national inventory for
the Forestry Commission
- Surveys and management proposals at numerous historic and designed
landscapes throughout Scotland
